Research Scientist/ Physician Scientist – Mid or Senior Career

Consistent with our emphasis on pediatric health equity, Nemours Children’s Health is pleased to announce a faculty position for a mid/senior career investigator. The position is based in Delaware and is a joint recruitment between the Department of Pediatrics and the Research Expanding Access to Child Health Center. The goals of the REACH Center are to provide the mentorship and infrastructure to launch and sustain programs of research focused on using stakeholder engaged methods to develop, evaluate, and implement technology-enhanced interventions to reduce inequities in child health. The scientist will expand our capacity for mentorship in health equity research and be a core member of the REACH faculty. As an NIH Institutional Development Award (IDeA) state program, this Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) provides a rich and unique opportunity for partnerships with our Delaware partner institutions – including the University of Delaware, Christiana Care, Delaware State University.

We invite applications from qualified diverse investigators in any pertinent discipline. The ideal candidate will hold an MD, MD/PhD, PhD or other doctoral degree in a health-related discipline and demonstrate evidence of collaborative academic productivity and prior success in obtaining funding for healthcare delivery science research that addresses health inequities. Areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to, health equity, implementation science, technology- enhanced interventions, intervention science, and health economics. A portion of this position can be dedicated to clinical service in the candidate’s professional specialty. The successful candidate will have a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics of Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.

The REACH Center is within the CHDS (www.nemours.org/CHDS),  a research center across the Nemours enterprise.  Our 18 investigators study ways to improve health care, health equity, education, and health and wellness beyond medicine for youth and their families. Research projects span a variety of topics, including resilience, experiences of adversity (e.g., housing instability, post-partum depression, racism, caregiver loss, maltreatment), addressing specific medical conditions (diabetes, cancer, cardiac conditions, obesity, sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, chronic pain), transition to adult healthcare, and other resources and challenges (early care and education, COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, cardiovascular risks) in child health. We have dedicated biostatisticians, data analysts, and clinical research coordinators. Nemours is a member of PEDSNet, providing access to electronic health record data, other databases, and training opportunities. Salary and benefits are highly competitive. The Department of Pediatrics consists of > 380 pediatricians, psychologists and pediatric  specialists that serve the clinical, research, education, and community missions of Nemours Children’s  Hospital, Delaware. The full-service children’s hospital, with 260 licensed beds, is the only quaternary children's hospital and level 4 NICU in Delaware and is a level one trauma center with an ECMO transport program. We serve as the Department of Pediatrics for the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.

  Bilingual Clinical Research Coordinator

The Center for Healthcare Delivery Science (CHDS) at Nemours Children’s Health is seeking a full-time Bilingual Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are required. The is based at Nemours Children’s Hospital – Delaware in Wilmington.

The CHDS is a research center across the Nemours enterprise. Anne E. Kazak, Ph.D., ABPP is the enterprise director, Melissa A. Alderfer, PhD is the Center Director in Delaware and Susana Patton, PhD is the Center Director in Florida. The CHDS includes 18 investigators that study ways to improve health care, health equity, and health and wellness beyond medicine for youth and their families. Research projects span a variety of medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, cancer, cardiac conditions, obesity, sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, pain) and other health-related challenges (COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, homelessness, maternal post-partum depression, racism). 

The CRC will be responsible for coordinating, implementing and completing research functions associated with studies in the CHDS, many of which recruit Spanish-speaking families. Essential CRC duties include coordinating IRB submissions, recruiting study participants, obtaining informed consent, interacting with youth, young adults and parents related to research projects, scheduling and conducting study procedures, collecting and recording study data, organizing participant payments, maintaining study records, participating in data collection and analysis, and the preparation of scientific presentations, manuscripts, reports, and grants.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, pre-med, public health, or related.

  • Must be able to effectively use Microsoft computer software, SPSS, and REDCap.

  • Must be able to coordinate and establish priorities among diverse tasks.

  • Previous research experience, including qualitative interviewing strongly preferred

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills required.
